Sutherland-Schultz is seeking a driven Sr. Mechanical Project Manager/Estimator that has a passion for digging into complex tasks and finding effective solutions and has a sincere desire to mentor the next generation of Project Managers. Our ideal candidate will constantly strive to provide excellent service to our customers, and our project management team.

What to expect:

  • Lead by example and set expectations for team members by making safety a priority on the job. This includes following company safety policies and procedures and correcting any behaviour that may be deemed to be unsafe.
  • Trains, motivates, coaches, mentors and develops project managers, project coordinators and estimators within the Operations group
  • Prepare pre-estimate functions, including procure drawings, review plans, specifications, contract documents, attend pre-bid meetings, visit sites, make recommendations regarding the quality of the bid opportunity
  • Prepare project take off packages, review and identify changes, cost, material, equipment and labour
  • Ensure all projects meet compliance standards (CWB, ISO, COR, TSSA)
  • Work closely with the Project Managers and accounting department to maintain an accurate up to date CTC
  • Assist in the preparation of scope definition, contract documents, subcontract administration and vendor relations
  • Prepare job status report as required to senior management
  • Communicate ideas for improving company process with a positive and constructive attitude
  • Work with other members of the Sr. Leadership Team to develop and implement business strategies and set the overall direction of the Operations group to achieve targets for safety, customer satisfaction, efficient productivity, and revenue

You have:

  • 10+ years Mechanical ICI Project Manager/Estimator experience
  • A sincere desire to coach, mentor and develop a strong team of Project Managers
  • A working knowledge of Jonas Construction Accounting Software an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft, including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • High level of initiative and keen interest in construction and problem solving

Position: Warehouse Support/DZ Driver, Support Services Division

Type: Full-time

What to expect:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation of the warehouse to ensure that it is running as efficiently as possible, maximizing productivity and minimizing costs.
  • Ensure the warehouse is able to meet the highest levels of internal and external customer service.
  • Pick tools as required and prepare for delivery to site as requested.
  • Ensure tool or supply requisitions are filled accurately, completely and on time.
  • Daily interaction with ToolWatch Tool Inventory database to track the company’s tools and equipment.
  • Input all database information into ToolWatch Tool Inventory database.
  • Receive tools returned from job sites and check to ensure the tools are in good working condition.
  • Maintain highly accurate receiving and inventory control records.
  • Conduct regular audits of physical tool inventory.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Verify safe cargo handling and securing of loads, including equipment preparation, and compliance with applicable acts and regulations.
  • Utilize a variety of chains, loading slings, hoists, beams, winch systems, snatch blocks, and shackles to load, secure, and haul according to safety and workplace requirements when qualified to do so
  • Drive lift trucks, forklifts, and other vehicles according to safe work procedures to load and unload vehicles.
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver’s hours of service, occupational health and safety, and weights and dimensions.
  • Ensure dangerous goods are transported according to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.
  • Safely maneuver trucks and trailers into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned using a spotter if required.

You have:

  • Ability to safely lift and handle 20-25 kg and safely push job boxes up to 100 kg on a consistent basis using abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue or strain.
  • Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, database type programs, etc.
  • Experience with ToolWatch tool inventory management software or similar tool tracking programs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Valid A or D drivers license as required for vehicles driven
  • Valid Air Brake endorsement (Z) if required for vehicles driven.
  • Standard and automatic transmission experience.
  • Defensive Driving course certification.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience driving forklift

Job Functions:

  • Develop and maintain positive customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, schedules, and manpower requirements to ensure project milestones are met. 
  • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and costs effectively. 
  • Coordinate internal and external resources and vendors to ensure availability and proper allocation.
  • Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques.

Requirements:

  • Possess one or more of the following:
    • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Project Management, Estimating, Engineering, or similar program.
    • Post-secondary trade-specific diploma, or equivalent experience. 
  • Trade certification in good standing an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, within the construction or a similar industry. 
  • Solid understanding of Accubid or other estimating software.
  • Solid understanding of JONAS accounting system, or similar software. 
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

What to expect:

  • Conducting a thorough review of specifications and drawings.
  • Developing thorough material take-offs and labour take-offs utilizing Accubid Anywhere.
  • Maintain databases, including labour rates, material pricing, and project costs.
  • Preparing tenders by quantifying, organizing, and tabulating all material, equipment, labour, and subcontract costs needed to complete the project.
  • Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Coordinating price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders/bid requests.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Review tender closing documents and obtain signed/sealed, bonding/insurance certificates, etc.
  • Build and develop cost metrics for all technical building types.
  • Consult with owners during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
  • Work in a team environment to help each other and collectively be successful
  • Supervise estimators in the preparation of check estimates for other work, review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Review of the estimate with the Operations Team to ensure all in agreement with labour, material, equipment, and subcontracting costs.
  • Support the Project Managers throughout the project duration.
  • Provide guidance on opportunities that come in, on viability, possibility of winning, possibility of extras, possible risks, etc. to help guide the team on the best prospects to chase.
  • Work with the Chief Estimator to track all bids and proposals for entry into the CRM Tool.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.

You have:

  • 5-10 years experience in a Mechanical estimating position
  • PQS an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • High level of initiative and keen interest in construction and problem solving
